Overview :
Founded in 1993 as a bio-discovery company by Dr. Shmulik Cabilly and Mr. Uri Yogev, ETHROG BIOTECHNOLOGIES LTD. has developed several genetic applications before focusing on its first commercial invention, the bufferless DNA electrophoresis system E-Gel, in 1996. Following an exclusive distribution agreement with Invitrogen Corp., the company established its Tel-Hai production plant in Northern Israel, from where the first products were manufactured in 1998. The company was acquired by Invitrogen in a stock-swap deal in 2000. Since then, ETHROG has developed the next generation of high-throughput agarose electrophoresis (E-Gel 96 and E-Gel 48), and launched the E-PAGE protein separation products, based on the same concept. ETHROG''s research projects are divided into next-generation separation technology, including the electrophoresis products E-Gel and E-PAGE, and additional, undisclosed projects, which are poised to solve other pressing research issues. Within its R&D department, ETHROG also conducts research on behalf of the Invitrogen corporate core research laboratory, advancing new and exciting fields contributing to both drug discovery and basic research. ETHROG has issued patents on the core technology of the E-Gel and E-PAGE, as well as the unique design of the 96-well format cassette. ETHROG is actively seeking new projects and applications that may result in successful products for the bioresearch market. Such projects are either developed in-house or licensed from Israel''s most innovative academic and biotech institutions. ETHROG maintains its 12-year commitment to develop advanced, ground-breaking products that enhance and accelerate life science research and discovery. ETHROG employs 40 dedicated workers, who are distributed between the production plant in Tel-Hai and the company''s headquarters and R&D Center in Ness Ziona, both in Israel.
