Leakage reduction by pressure management in municipal water supply systems.

Overview :
Most of the world’s cities suffer from the problem of water loss, for which the technical term is Non-Revenue Water or Unaccounted for Water. Out of the total amount pumped into the distribution network, a municipality is able to supply to the consumers only 60% to 80%. This is due to the water loss as a result of leakage in the pipeline network of the various neighborhoods.
The solution proposed for this problem is the Smart Pressure Reduction Controller (SPRC), which integrates elements of hardware, software and hydraulics.
The SPRC provides a comprehensive solution for the leakage problem by actively controlling the Pressure Reducing Valves, found in any municipal water supply system at the point where the piping network of a neighborhood is connected to the city main water system.
The SPRC dynamically changes the pressure applied to the network according to the actual demand for water, resulting in significant leakage reduction.
Throughout the daily demand cycle the SPRC considerably decrease the leakage, which tends to increase greatly especially during night, when pressure grows due to diminished demand.
The SPRC is:
* An electronic/hydraulic device that dynamically manages Pressure Reduction Valves - adjusting the pressure applied to the network relative to actual demand
* Easy to install on any existing hardware
* Robust and reliable even in flooded chambers
* Controllable dynamically – customizable by the user
The SPRC can:
* Reduce leakage by up to 50%
* Manage a full network PRV structure
* Use the existing PRV asset – no valve replacement necessary
* Not exceed the manual pressure set point of the PRV
* Suite the UK and the EU operational requirements
* Interface with SCADA and other management tools through standard communication port
