plant growth regulators. AGAN exports over 90% of production to
more than 100 countries, competing successfully with the leading
multinationals in the chemicals industry. The company also
produces an expanding line of specialty aroma chemicals which has
achieved quality standing in international markets.
In 1970 AGAN entered into partnership with Makhteshim Chemical
Works Ltd., a subsidiary of Koor Industries, Israel's largest
industrial conglomerate.
In 1998 Makhteshim and AGAN expect to merge operations into one
new holding company, rationalizing activities into five units -
agrochemicals, aroma and fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, natural
antioxidants and industrial chemicals, each functioning as a
separate, wholly-owned subsidiary.
AGAN's multi-track research and development program is designed
to achieve maximum utilization of the Company's expertise in
existing technologies and to develop new products targeted to
specific market niches. With state-of-the-art laboratories and
on-site pilot plant facilities, AGAN's researchers work in
multidisciplinary projects together with process engineers,
quality control specialists, and product application agronomists,
as well as in collaborative projects with Israel's leading
academic and applied research institutions.
Joint investment together with Makhteshim for research and
commercial development of the carotenoid lycopene, extracted from
tomatoes, resulted in the formation of a joint spin-off company,
LycoRed Natural Products Industries Ltd., which is developing
scientific data and producing a new line of innovative products
for the growing health foods/nutraceuticals market.
The R&D program also encompasses an ongoing schedule of
analytical testing and data collection studies on the toxicology
of potential new products, as well as data regarding the effect
on the environment of well-known materials currently produced.
This important backup service provides AGAN's customers with
up-to-date, scientific information needed by the authorities of
their countries for product registration.
