NUMONYX was created by Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) and
STMicroelectronics NV (NYSE; Euronext: STM) out of their flash
memory units. The primary motive behind the establishment of
NUMONYX was to combine the technologies of the two companies.
Fab 1 produces NOR flash memory processors using 65-nanometer
technology, as part of NUMONYX's inheritance from Intel. NUMONYX
will also produce NAND flash memory processors inheritance from
STM.
On May 2008 NUMONYX ISRAEL has begun prototype production of its
45-nanometer technology silicon wafers at its Fab 1 in Kiryat
Gat, the first fab in the world to produce NOR Flash processors
with this technology. The company brought forward the production
date, originally scheduled for the second half of the year.
NUMONYX currently manufacturers wafer with 90 and 65-nanometer
technologies, and the changeover to 45-nanometer technology will
enable it to produce a larger number of processors on a single
silicon wafer, which will boost the company's profitability.
