technologies to design and develop SIP infrastructure and
features of real-time collaboration, including session
management, presence awareness, subscriptions and notifications,
text messaging, developer toolkits, and mobile real-time
messaging infrastructure. The lab has been in existence since
1994, when it pioneered work in instant messaging and presence
technologies. In 1998, the lab was acquired by IBM to work on
next-generation technologies for Lotus products.
The lab contributes products to Lotus Workplace and Lotus Instant
Messaging and Web Conferencing (Sametime) offerings.
The SIP Infrastructure development team focuses on developing
best-of-breed SIP products to be used in the new Lotus Workplace
platform and across other IBM products. As the leading real-time
collaboration product, our next-generation developers are
embracing the leading protocols for awareness, presence, and
session management - initiations-SIP (Session Initiation
Protocol) and SIMPLE (SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence
Leverage Extension). SIP and SIMPLE are approved IETF standards
that are designed to provide, among other things,
interoperability between different presence and instant messaging
communities and clients.
The Synchronous Collaboration development team focuses on
developing best-of-breed, real-time collaboration technologies
for the new Lotus Workplace platform, and the award-winning Lotus
Instant Messaging (Sametime) offering. The team developed the
Sametime Connect and Sametime Java Connect clients, as well as a
complete suite of toolkits.
