Overview

CBD TECHNOLOGIES LTD. is a world leader in the use of
biotechnology for forest improvement and the development of
biologically-based, clean processes for paper manufacturing.

The CBD story begins with cellulose. Cellulose, produced by all
plants, is one of the most widely distributed biomaterials in the
world. Cellulose surrounds us everywhere - it is the major
component of paper and wood, cotton consists entirely of
cellulose and many plastics have a cellulose base.

CBD's cell wall modulation platform evolved from cellulose
binding domains (CBDs), which are families of proteins that
nature designed to bind to cellulose to facilitate its processing
and recycling back into environmental elements.

CBD TECHNOLOGIES has utilized these proteins to enhance cellulose
production and fiber quality in forest trees and is developing
chemicals based on CBD proteins for use in paper manufacturing
and modification.

The plant cell wall provides the cellulose that is the source of
all industrial fiber needed for paper, board, wood, cotton and a
multitude of other forestry or agricultural products, as well as
many plastics. At the heart of CBD's technology lies the
capability of producing plants that have altered cell walls,
resulting in enhanced growth and biomass, increased cellulose,
improved fiber properties, improved digestibility by livestock,
and increased yield properties. CBD has secured broad
intellectual property covering plants with modified cell walls
showing such altered properties, protecting developments and
creating barriers to potential competitors. The Company has
progressed beyond gene discovery and is able to effect these
changes in plant cell walls using its patented cellulose binding
domain genes and cel1 genes.

CBD TECHNOLOGIES works with partner forestry companies to harness
the power of the CBD technology to improve the yields of their
sustainable plantation forests, thereby helping to meet growing
fiber demand, utilizing less land and reducing destruction of
native forests.

AdCel Technologies B.V., a CBD subsidiary, is developing
CBD-fusion proteins as flocculating, surface modifying,
strengthening and sizing agents in the paper manufacturing
process. This new class of paper chemicals, imbued with powerful
biological recognition of cellulose, can improve paper properties
whilst simultaneously providing significant recycling, ecological
and economic benefit.
