both the industrial and R&D enzyme markets
Potential applications of interest are:
* clinical assays;
* enzymatically catalyzed organic synthesis;
* the paper production industry;
* biosensors.
The ultrastable nature of these enzymes will be due to their
isolation from microbes of the domain Archaea which live in
extreme environments and produce suitably adapted enzymes. The
enzymes will be produced as recombinant proteins in more
hospitable microorganisms to ensure commercially feasible
production.
Four specific enzymes have been targeted for development:
1. DNA ligase, for use in the diagnostic LCR technique;
2. alcohol dehydrogenase, for use in enzymatic organic synthesis;
3. xylanase, for biobleaching of paper pulp;
4. cellulase, for improved water drainage from recycled paper
pulp.
All four enzymes are intended for improved versions of processes
already employing enzymes.
ARCHAEZYME LTD. accepts projects in all areas of enzyme
development.
The Company actively seeks R&D collaborations and development
projects in the following industries:
* the fine chemical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries -
as biocatalysts or additives;
* the bulk chemical industry - as biocatalysts or bulk
products;
* the recycling industry - conversion of industrial or
municipal waste to marketable products;
* the bioremediation industry - enzymatic degradation of
recalcitrant toxins;
* the animal feed industry - enzyme additives for feed;
* the food industry - enzyme based processes for food
improvement, additives for food;
* the petroleum services industry - enzymatic degradation of
drilling fluids.
