ALPHA OMEGA entered the clinical arena with the sophisticated
MicroGuide product for use in Functional Neurosurgery.
As its main activity, ALPHA OMEGA designs, develops and
manufactures specialized biomedical lab equipment for the brain
and the nervous system. A close cooperation with Israeli
researchers from institutions such as the Hadassah Medical
School, the Technion and the Weizman Institute, ensures the best
development possible.
For clinical applications, ALPHA OMEGA has developed the
MicroGuide which is an integral system based on its scientific
products and used in Functional Neurosurgery.
The MicroGuide is used for optimal target localization for the
treatment of movement disorders, in particular Parkinson disease.
The system is designed for clinical use during Pallidotomy,
Thalamotomy, Deep Brain Stimulation [DBS] and other similar
neurosurgical procedures. Over 40 medical centers in the US are
already active in that field, using "sub-optimal systems" at the
time where the worldwide growth potential is expanding.
Operation - During surgery, a microelectrode is advanced into the
brain with on-line recording and stimulation, which are performed
for precise focusing on the target organ and for evaluating the
symptoms before and after surgery. The physiological navigation
and localization during the procedure is done for achieving
better clinical results (short and long term). "On line"
assessment of the electrophysiological activity assures to
doctors guaranteed results of not causing irreversible damage to
adjacent centers (i.e. Vision, Somatosensory).
