Core business

Promotion of Research and Development of the Medical Center

Overview

TEL AVIV SOURASKY MEDICAL CENTER (TASMC) - R&D DIVISION aims to
bridge between basic scientists and clinicians, to challenge
results found in cells or animal models into clinical trials, and
to introduce novel technologies into clinical practice.
The physicians and scientists at the Medical Center are highly
trained in numerous specialties.
The clinical departments are affiliated to the Sackler faculty of
Medicine at Tel-Aviv University, and participate actively in
teaching medical students.
Research is conducted in laboratories attached to clinical
departments or in research facilities affiliated to the
departments.
TASMC management has made a commitment to research, and
encourages its physicians to devote time to research during and
after their training.
Concurrent with the attention to developing research skills in
the young staff, TASMC also invests in unique equipment,
infrastructure and expert scientist positions.

Particular emphasis is placed on developing centers of
excellence, such as:
* Advanced Brain Imaging
* Genomics Research
* Regenerative Medicine
* Cancer Research
* Epidemiology and Resistance to Antibiotics
* Cardiovascular Research
* Gait and Movement Disorders

The Clinical Research Center is a Phase-I Clinical Pharmacology
Unit located at the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (TASMC). It
is, in fact, the only dedicated Early-Phase unit in Israel.

This 30 bed unit is located within the hospital premises and
combines the capability of carrying out Phase-I and
bioequivalence studies involving healthy volunteers as well as
Phase IIA studies with patients from the various hospital
disciplines. The CRC was established with the blessing of the
Israeli Ministry of Health, and enjoys the full support and
co-operation of the Hospital's management.

The personnel operating the CRC comprises of physicians, nurses
and technicians, trained to GCP standards, headed by Dr. Jacob
Atsmon, M.D..
Since its establishment, the CRC has successfully undertaken
clinical studies for both Israeli and international
pharmaceutical companies and CROs. Through collaboration with the
hospital's various specialties and with other hospitals in
Israel, the CRC has access to patients with various diseases e.g.
liver diseases, kidney diseases, asthma, neurological conditions,
cancer, etc. This has led us to undertake a number of Phase-IIA
patient studies, with the added advantage that the latter are
conducted in a strictly controlled Phase-I setting.
