was acquired by Medical Ventures Corp. The company changed its
name to NEOVASC.
NEOVASC, a breakthrough, minimally invasive treatment for
Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) patients who are not treatable by
existing medical procedures. IHD is caused by limited inflow of
blood in the coronary arteries, often caused by atherosclerosis,
and includes well known and common disorders such as angina
pectoris (chest pain), diabetic (small vessel) heart disease, and
congestive heart failure (CHF). Using a proprietary device called
the Reducer, NEOVASC increases the supply of oxygen to the heart
muscle and improves cardiovascular function by slowing blood
drainage and flow from the arteries to the venous circulation.
Revascularization procedures, such as coronary artery bypass
surgery and balloon angioplasty, are effective interventions and
have grown into multibillion dollar market opportunities.
Nevertheless, a large segment of IHD patients cannot benefit from
the progress made in the last 20 years. An estimated 700,000 new
patients per year, including those with diffuse, distal and small
coronary vessel disease, those patients with high-operative risk,
or those who have already undergone some level of intervention,
cannot benefit from the above mentioned interventional
procedures.
A technical solution to serve these patients has the potential to
revolutionize interventional cardiology practice and to become a
billion dollar business opportunity. In addition, NEOVASC
believes that its Reducer could target other important
indications.
