catalytic reactions into more efficient biocatalytic ones. The
superior performance of PROTEREC 's proprietary, process-tailored
biocatalysts is designed to ensure the maintenance of its
clients' competitive edge.
* The substitution of a catalytic reaction by a biocatalytic one
requires fine-tuning of a biocatalyst (an enzyme) to the
conditions of the given process. These are defined by industrial
needs as well as considerations regarding streamlining the
process with other upstream and downstream processes.
* The fine-tuning is done by choosing the best performer for the
specific reaction, this from a library of enzymes that have been
mutated in order to create a wide spectrum of specificities.
Success depends on the library's complexity.
* Existing approaches, including the most advanced ones designed
by biocatalyst development leaders Diversa Corporation and
Maxygen, are limited in terms of library's complexity.
* PROTEREC 's IVPR is a new, interdisciplinary approach combining
protein engineering, enzymology and genetics, to create synthetic
enzyme libraries with an unsurpassed spectrum of characteristics.
Utilizing this approach, structural and functional "building
blocks" or "domains" are defined among related, natural enzymes.
These building blocks are pooled and reshuffled to produce a
library of chimeric enzymes. Consequently, libraries with
unequaled complexity and variance are created, enabling the
selection of enzymes that are superior to the ones currently in
industrial use.
The company is defining a new line of products for chemical-based
industries that are more specific, less wasteful, and less
damaging to the environment. PROTEREC's IP is targeted to improve
the transformation of substances utilized in manufacturing
pipelines that until now have been problematic.
PROTEREC's primary customer base will be provided with a more
effective process, together with exclusive, proprietary
biocatalysts. Generated by PROTEREC's In-Vitro Protein
Recombination (IVPR) proprietary technology, these
process-tailored, synthetic biocatalysts are designed to give
PROTEREC's clients a leading edge over their competitors.
