Overview

ASSISTec's development is concentrated in the field of
voice-response speaking tools -Personal Digital Assistants (PDA)
for the blind, visually impaired and elderly. The first entry in
a series of such products, called "The Talking World" series, is
the "VoiLa" voiced label (bar code) reader, in production from
December 2001. The product has had a great reception from the
blind and visually impaired community.

Other items in the Talking World series of PDAs will serve this
same community. Thus, future R&D will move in several directions:
* Developing other products, technologically similar to the
VoiLa, for the blind and visually impaired community. In this,
the company will profit from current investments in both R & D
and in marketing.
* Developing products, technologically similar to the VoiLa,
targeted at new market niches that would naturally benefit from
voice processing technology. In this direction, the company will
benefit from current R & D and from the marketing perspective
presently being gained.
* Acquiring and implementing in the product line state-of the-art
technology of the PDA industry. This will include
miniaturization, memory extensions, longer battery life and
communications features. The broadening of the technological
basis will allow the expansion of the product range in the two
directions listed above. Investment in technology will help to
maintain a leading position in the markets and will create an
ever-growing barrier for potential competitors.
