Touch-Teletrac and Tadiran. The system was based on the high-tech
tracking system developed by Tadiran to locate downed pilots for
the Israel Air Force. The Company was sold to a group led by Mr.
Eazy Sheratzky and Professor Yehuda Kahane in 1995.
The new management group swiftly turned the Company into a
commercial success. With a strong insurance industry and security
background behind them, the new owners recognized that it was not
enough to have leading-edge technology - what was needed was a
strong understanding of the market and strategic partnerships
within the insurance sector to assist the Company in marketing
the Ituran system to its target market, as well as top quality
installation and service.
The selfsame system devised to rescue pilots from enemy territory
is now being used successfully to track and locate stolen cars in
Israel. In the last two years alone, the Ituran system saved the
Israeli insurance industry an estimated $50 million dollars.
Experience has shown that the Ituran system reduced the risk of a
car being stolen and not returned by 90%. Recognition of this
fact has prompted the Israeli insurance industry to offer
substantially reduced premiums to clients installing the Ituran
system.
Ituran's technology, which was specifically designed to locate
downed pilots in hostile territory, is the only system capable of
providing location and messaging services, supporting reliable
coverage indoors or outdoors and effectively locating vehicles,
people or equipment. Ituran uses a terrestrial network of base
stations to effectively track and communicate with mobile objects
using a technology known as Differential Time of Arrival (DTOA)
and spread spectrum technology, which are largely immune to
electromagnetic disturbances and operate reliably even within
dense urban environments and indoors.
Ituran operates in a number of fields related to the security of
vehicles, equipment and people. To date, the Company's primary
business has focused on preventing auto theft and tracing stolen
vehicles, vehicle fleet management, and personal security
services utilizing Ituran's unique technology. The Vehicle
Location Unit's complementary vehicle alarm and immobilizer
system, which triggers a real-time alert, is the key to thwarting
theft attempts in their early stages. By collecting the required
data promptly, the control center may efficiently activate the
security forces at its disposal, which include a fleet of
security vehicles and a helicopter, thus avoiding costly and
risky recovery operations. Within three seconds of determining
that a vehicle has been stolen, the system identifies the exact
location of the vehicle and is able to track its movements in
real-time.
