treatment of neurological diseases and related disorders. These
transdermal delivery systems are based on unique proprietary
formulations and a device that enables to maintain low but
constant concentrations of the active drug in the blood. This
will allow obtaining more efficacious pharmacological effect with
reduced adverse effects. NeuroDerm strategy is to use compounds
that are approved for human use, thereby shortening the process
of the product approval by the health authorities. The
development efforts are focused at developing formulations that
will enhance transdermal penetration and a device that will be
used for delivering a variety of drugs for prolonged periods.
The first product that has been developed is a transdermal
delivery system of L-DOPA for the treatment of Parkinson's
patients. Additional planed products are transdermal delivery
systems for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and xerostomia.
The company expects to initiate Phase I clinical trials during
the first quarter of 2007.
Development of additional products based on the company's
technology will commence during 2007.
ADVANTAGES
The products are more favorable for the patient due to the
maintenance of small, but steady, blood concentrations, compared
with intermittent oral administration.
Conferring neuroprotection and prolonging the period during which
the drug provides beneficial effects by improving the
pharmacokinetic and the pharmacodynamic profiles of the drug.
Extending the patent lifetime of generic drugs.
Expanding the conventional market of known drugs to new medical
indications.
