focused on the protection of the brain during open-heart surgery
and other cardiological procedures, such as percutaneous
cardiological interventions (PCI) and angiographies.
The NeuroGuard system utilizes 'acoustic radiation force' the
force exerted by travelling ultrasonic waves on particles
dispersed in ambient liquid, in order to manipulate emboli
flowing in the arterial blood stream. Designed to become an
integral part of all open-heart surgery procedures, as well as
cerebral emboli-generating therapeutic and diagnostic procedures
such as PCIs and angiographies, the system represents a
revolutionary generic concept for cerebral protection.
NEUROSONIX has conceived, developed and patented a breakthrough
technology and medical devices for the prevention of acute
cerebral embolism during open-heart cardiac surgery as well as
other invasive and minimally-invasive procedures. The company's
proprietary technology, which is based on ultrasound, enables a
non-invasive deflection of embolic material flowing inside the
body, away from the cerebral arteries. This new ultrasonic
modality significantly reduces the embolic load on the patient's
brain.
The first product developed by the company is the EmBlocker,
intended to provide protection from acute cerebral embolism
during cardiac surgical procedures. The Protection Collar, the
company's second product, is intended for embolic protection
during minimally-invasive procedures and Cath-lab practice.
Ex-Vivo and In-Vivo studies of the EmBlocker have already been
conducted and have demonstrated excellent results regarding the
safety and efficacy of the technology. Clinical trials in humans
have started in the beginning of 2006.
The addressable market for the products of NeuroSonix is
estimated as US $2 Billion in annual revenues.
