magnesium alloy extrusions. The technology will, for the first
time allow cost effective production of automotive magnesium
alloy tubular parts that are required by motor vehicle
manufacturers. The primary driver for use of extruded tubular
products in the vehicle is to increase stiffness of the
structure, while at the same time reduce body weight, improve
handling and also result in a saving of fuel and a reduction in
harmful emissions. While aluminum is rapidly replacing steel in
the motor industry, magnesium is the next generation that will
replace aluminum and steel.
Applications for the product are for all situations where a
lighter, more ridged tubular component is required than Steel and
Aluminum.
The primary customer will be the automotive industry. Because of
their need for the product, they are presently very receptive.
Thereafter the metal industry at large will be targeted.
