system based on a miniature concentrator and concentrated

by concentrating sunlight from a large area onto a small number
of specially designed high efficiency photovoltaic cells. This
enables substituting a large amount of expensive semiconductor
material with a less expensive solar concentrator. In addition,
high temperature heat is produced for use by the consumer.
Di.S.P.'s device produces electricity and heat using a sun
tracking Miniature Concentrated PhotoVoltaic (MCPV) device. The
system is intended for use by on-grid consumers in Distributed
Generation. It operates at higher efficiency than competing
photovoltaic systems and in good solar conditions it is capable
of producing 40% more electricity. It also provides a large
amount of heat at high temperature (above 100 degrees Celsius)
suitable for steam generation, cooling and refrigeration (through
use of absorption cooling), space and water heating as well as
process heat. As such, it is a comprehensive Combined Heat and
Power (CHP) system that fits in the expanding market segment of
energy saving CHP devices.
The cost of the MCPV system is substantially lower than that of
comparable PV systems. Also, in sunny locations, the cost of the
generated energy is approximately half that of competing systems
and can even compete with energy derived from conventional
sources. The cost of energy to the consumer replaces the price of
grid power including taxes and tariffs (which are much higher
than the generation cost of the electric companies), and the
consumer can benefit from discounts and incentives provided to
users of energy from renewable sources.
The MCPV system is produced from simple, off-the-shelf components
and easy-to produce parts. Due to its small size, even moderate
levels of energy generation require a large number of units. This
enables reaching mass production at low cost during early stages
of development with relatively small investments.
The system is based on knowledge developed at Tel Aviv
University. Di.S.P. has exclusive rights for use of this
knowledge.
