Combining familiar standard midline and PICC insertion devices
and procedures with novel designs, FLEXICATH has produced
innovative sterile catheter systems that are more cost effective;
safer; easier to use when compared to existing IV catheters.
FLEXICATH's first product line, FirmGrip, is designed to reduce
the need for an external sterile environment, provide added
protection, and enhance insertion.
* The catheter is trimmed to length inside the sterile field.
* A patented connector connects the insertion unit to the
introducer.
* The medical professional grasps the catheter through a
specially designed insertion unit and inserts the catheter in the
same manner currently used.
* A specially designed handgrip increases friction between the
hand and catheter for greater control. The handgrip moves back
automatically in an accordion-like motion to facilitate continued
insertion.
The two models are:
* FirmGrip.60 - This model adds the sterile sleeve to the
standard PICC and midline catheters and peel-away insertion
needle.
* FirmGrip.15 - In this model, a soft, "mini" midline catheter
(15 cm) encased in the compact sterile sleeve is inserted in a
simple, efficient manner using a peel-away insertion needle as a
point of entry.
The FirmGrip system enables a safer, quicker, and cleaner process
that can be performed at a fraction of the cost of today's PICC
line or midline insertions.
