well established treatment modalities of deep pressure touch and
pulsation to produce a calming effect. Although other devices,
like the Temple Grandin "squeeze machine", use deep pressure
touch, few, if any, are both easily portable and non-restraining.
BioHug's device is a vest, which delivers mildly pulsating
pressure through the use of inflatable cells placed throughout
the garment. It is small and light enough to be carried in a
knapsack and could be used virtually anywhere. The wearer is not
restrained in any way, and can remove it at will. The company
plans to include a biofeedback mechanism, which will
automatically regulate the level of stimulation. Although BioHug
has not yet performed rigorous clinical trials, anecdotal
evidence from the use of prototypes at hostels in Israel suggests
that the device does indeed have a calming effect on the wearer.
Key Benefits:
* Device uses proven treatment modalities (Deep Touch Pressure &
Pulsation)
* The only device, which is both easily portable and
non-restraining
* Biofeedback to provide ideal level of stimulation.
After 14 months of operation, an advanced working prototype has
been developed. The company expects to begin initial clinical
trials within two months. The company has received significant
positive feedback from parents and caretakers around the world on
the basis of articles published about the project.
