Overview

LV POWER technology is based on two new developments in the field
of power conversion. Both developments are fundamentally
different from any topology currently in use. The Company calls
them
1) B.E.C.S. - Bidirectional Energy Conversion System
2) Anyvoltage- Any input voltage to the power supply

1) B.E.C.S. - Bidirectional Energy Conversion System.- The
entire function of a power supply is to convert electrical energy
from one form to another in the most efficient way possible.

In a complex system this is done several times.
* AC Line to DC 48V
* DC 48V to Internal Bus Architecture (IBA) 12V
* IBA to point of load 5V, 3.3V ,1.1V, 0.8V

Even if each of these conversions were 90% efficient .. And they
are not, the overall conversion efficiency will be 0.9 x 0.9 x
0.9 = 0.73% . Real life systems are between 0.65-0.70% efficient.

The B.E.C.S system is working on two principals.
A) The use of both zero voltage and zero current switches in
every stage of the conversion process, causing dynamic losses
to be close to zero.
B) Direct conversion from line AC to load DC in "one" step
whereby all required end load DC voltages are drawn off from a
common high frequency AC bus.

By use of these two principals it is possible to achieve an
overall system efficiency of over 90% resulting in a net energy
savings of between 20-25%.

2) Anyvoltage - Any input voltage to the power supply.

High efficiency power supplies today can accommodate only a
ximum variance of three in the input voltage 86-264VAC. This is
because a wide variance in input voltage requires a wide variance
in the control frequency for synchronous converters.
Anyvoltage system allows a variance of 1 to 11 in the input
voltage to the supply either AC or DC input typically 36VDC to
264VAC for conversion efficiency of above 90%. In a server farm
environment this allows a possibility of taking the input
directly from the battery bank, thus resulting in about 5% energy
savings by cutting out the UPS DC/AC power conversion stage. In
addition the fact that "any" voltage can be applied to the supply
makes life simple for equipment manufactures for any power
source: DC for telecom or line AC for datacom.
